Dear Friends, It has been a momentous week for the Christchurch Diocese. The Electoral College went very well. Archbishop Sir David Moxon, who was the President of the College, and Bishop Ellie Sanderson, chaplain to the College, presided at the opening Eucharist attended by 192 members of the Electoral College. Proposers, seconders, and supporters spoke in favour of their own respective candidates during the conference on Saturday and all discussion was respectful and encouraging. Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
The gospel today makes me worked up. What a vulnerable situation for Jesus to be conceived and born into. It was within Joseph’s rights to have Mary his betrothed publicly humiliated, if not possibly stoned, once he found out that she was pregnant to someone else. It says something of Joseph’s character that he was willing to release her from their commitment to marriage without making a scene.
