Dear brothers and sisters in Christ

I was recently shocked to hear that two well-known parishes in Hastings have closed. Here are some shocking suggestions to stop our church from closing.

We need to stop expecting people to come to church. The Great Commission of Christ tells us to “Go” and spread the Good News.
We need to stop seeing the church as a place of comfort and stability while the world is rapidly changing. What we find comfortable often doesn’t make sense to younger people.

Today is our annual service of Harvest Thanksgiving, when we give God thanks for the yearly harvest of creation, but also thank God for all the gifts of life. We should always be mindful of God’s generosity to us, especially for food, water and all things that nourish us. Please think about people you could invite to come. We still need helpers in the kitchen and to provide a sweet slice.
