THE COMBINED CHURCH OF AKAROA AND THE BAYS
Sunday 21 October 2018
10.30am St Luke’s Little Akaloa
4.00pm St Peter’s Evening Worship
We welcome you all, parishioners and visitors, to our services today. We are really pleased to have you with us and hope that you will join us for morning tea after the service at St Luke’s and in the lounge after the evening service for shared refreshments.
Today’s Prayer
Almighty God,
you inspired Luke the physician to proclaim
the love and healing power of your Son;
give your Church grace through his teaching
to strengthen the afflicted, heal the desolate
and bind up the broken-hearted;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Mike’s Message
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ
Much is happening over this Labour Weekend. A tremendous thanks for all who contributed material and time to our Fair yesterday. A big thank you to Rachel Tipping for coordinating it this year, to everyone who manned a stall, and to Kate Clare for keeping a close eye on the proceeds. Today we have two important services. Many of us hope to join with the Little Akaloa regulars in the celebration of their church’s patronal festival of St Luke’s. We thank God for the many locals over the years who have cared for and supported the church in Little Akaloa, and today we particularly thank Gaye Menzies for being their spokesperson and for the tireless work that Virginia Mayo does quietly in the church. Remember that Archdeacon Mark Barlow will be our guest preacher at tonight’s 4pm evening worship at St Peter’s. Finally, let us give thanks to God with Fr Paul Shannahan and his congregation for the reopening of their iconic church of St Patricks this weekend after its restoration. I am sure many will miss our joint morning teas every second Sunday at Trinity.
God bless! Mike
RICHARD RANDERSON SEMINAR
Don’t forget to invite your family, friends and neighbours to come and hear Bishop Richard Randerson next Sunday. He will preach at the 9.30 am service, and will then lead another of his stimulating
seminars in Trinity Hall, beginning at 11.00 am. Please bring a plate of finger food to share, as we hope to have a few visitors.
FRIENDS OF POMPALLIER AGM
There will be an AGM for the Friends of Pompallier on Thursday 25th October at 10.30 am at St Peter’s lounge. All are welcome to attend.
ALL SAINTS SERVICE AT ST PETERS ON SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER
It has been a tradition to remember in our prayers the lives of the faithful and our loved ones who have died, on the Sunday closest to All Saints Day. We will still have a chance to do this on Sunday 4th November, at our 9.30am service. However, this year I would like us to also remember our living saints who often quietly get on with being the hands and feet of Christ, sharing the gospel through their love and actions. There will be large piece of paper that people can put a name of someone they want us to give thanks to God for. Think about who our living saints are. Mike
COMMUNITY LUNCH – FRIDAY 26 OCTOBER
Our sixth community lunch for the year will be held in Trinity Hall this Friday, at 11.45 am, for 12 noon. This time the soup will be provided by the students of Akaroa High School. We are looking forward to another enjoyable time, so please invite your friends and neighbours and come along yourself. Jeannette will be leading the team, assisted by Kath in the kitchen with Rachel and Rose serving. Carol and Wendy will be welcoming, with Carol and Noelene making sweet slices and Sarah and Kath providing cheese rolls etc. It’s a great way to meet others from our community. We look forward to seeing you there!
